About the Artist

I am a New York City based artist focussed in oil painting on canvas. 

 

Growing up in the Bronx, with limited means, I would find a world hidden in a pencil and some paper. This began my passion for art and a sense of escape, evident in my paintings today. 

 

Later in life, I went on to study fine art, art history and painting restoration. A background that heavily influences my work and brings classic techniques and symbolism to modern use.

 

My work explores deep emotion expressed with a sense of melancholy. The process usually begins with a concept statement or memory of a dream that I will decipher. This gets translated into a gesture or color to convey the idea until the canvas invites me into its world and brings me on a new unexpected journey. 

 

The viewer can often feel like a voyeur or intruder into a private moment. 

 

This is often expressed in confined spaces within spaces or more recently a vast loneliness within open space.
